ICANN in Lisbon Portugal

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Well I’ve been in Portugal for the past 4 days. This place is a bit of an eye opener. The people look quite relaxed, and no one was even at the air port to stamp my passport. Picked up my luggage and walked straight through. Maybe it was because I came straight from Luxembourg (another EU member state), but I feel like I need to get it stamped somewhere, just so I can look at my passport to find out where I have been.

ICANN conference is where the domainers, sales people, lawyers, registrars, registries, all meet up, sell to each other, get drunk at cocktails parties, and get free dinners. It has been an experience.

My hotel the Sana Malhoa Hotel in Lisbone is pretty nice, but seeing Boeing 747 fly across the top of your building with less than 500 feet clearance is somewhat an experience.

I am sitting in the lobby at the ICANN Hotel using their free wireless, but I am now meeting with the Porto Ricco Registry soon, so I better get off here. Time is against me.

I will definately have to post a bucket load of photographs soon, but will need sorting somewhat. I don’t even have time to edit any typing mistakes in this post.

Leaving on a jet plane

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

Well last week, I stopped via Singapore for 12 hours, had a meeting with the SGNIC ccTLD registry, and then headed off to Hong Kong.

In Hong Kong, I graciously accepted an award, and did lots of shopping. I also made my way to the peaks, and then headed back to Australia. I did score a nice digital camera on the way too. Have taken heaps of photos, I will post them along with my well overdue Vanuatu photos.

Here is a picture of me accepting the award for the Best Performing New Overseas Partner at HKDNR - the Hong Kong ccTLD registry.

Due to inconsiderate passengers on the plane trip back, I had no sleep overnight, but worked that day. On the weekend, Chu and I rebuilt a UNIX mail server, and today, I find out today I am going to London (27 hours notice), Luxembourg, and Portugal to the ICANN conference. So my trip back home was short lived (less than 180 hours). So Europe here I come.
