One of those days

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

Due to the Commonwealth Games starting in Melbourne today, my tennis season has been suspended for two weeks.

My club had a social night (even though it was unannounced), and I had the pleasure of catching up with Glen, Ross, Shane, Jacqui, Vince, and the Angelic Basil. A few others were there as well.. and I decided to play a nice social game of mixed doubles. All was going well until I decided to make a mini-jump to re-enact the result of the previous point (yes I wasn’t playing), and I managed to roll my ankle.

It is too painful to walk on at the moment, however it can sustain a little of my body mass. I was fortunate my two cousins came to the rescue so one of them could drive me home in my own car. A lamb kebab was enjoyed by both Chris (the driver) and myself on the trip home.

While my feet are ugly, and not properly maintained, a few people have requested photos. The right foot near the ankle ball joint is swallon, however the ice packs have reduced the swelling significantly. So the egg size swelling has been reduced to a gold ball size now.

The right (injured) foot is here:

A picture of the left foot is here, just to make a comparison

I think I will be forced to work from home for the day once I wake up.

While the pictures don’t look to bad (compared to two hours ago) — I can assured everyone it hurts pretty damn badly at this point of time. So I will be spending much of time at my desk, that is for certain.

This year is going fast

Well working with a close knit team can be hard yakka. I’ve had the absolute privelage of meeting new people, and have had some fun times in the office over the past few weeks.

I think I am learning to deal with stress a lot better these days, even though I still have some bad habits that I picked up from Telstra. As I am no longer “imprisoned” by their attempted slave driving techniques, I am learning to take some time to look after me. While everyone I work with performs different primary job functions, we band together when required. I am quite proud of my new work place friends. I’ve also been getting other stuff organised, and I am pretty excited that I have recently purchased a Linux server in Australia, that is currently living at a data centre in Brisbane.

I visited my folks last weekends, fished some Yabbies from the dam, fixed my car (replaced break light switch).. and on the more positive front, my hip/groin injury appears to have disappeared :) — so hopefully I should be good for tennis tommorrow night. I also hope to find a fourth player before 7pm tommorrow. I will just have to continue the hunt to find players, otherwise I will scalp Miles, and play him under an assumed alias. Time will tell I guess. Time for me to go to bed.. I have a huge two days ahead of me.
