I can’t believe February is almost here

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

Well it has been a flat out month. I’ve got a bucket load of work to do, and I’m not sure how I am going to find time to fit it all in. Tennis season is fast approaching.. I have orders to process, Invoices to send, and my book keeping work is getting out of hand again. Then again, I’ve been known to procrastinate, and its a habit I am slowly breaking.

However tonight.. I’ve finally linked up mobile phone bluetooth to my new latop. A nice laptop it is too. It even has a wide screen with a resolution of 1680×1050… which is extremly nice. The DVD burner, wireless (bluetooth, 802.11x (x being multiple standards)… and infrared. It has a nice 3D card, and it plays Star Wars KOTR nicely. Even though I don’t have time to play it.

Here is a terrible photo of my new Toshiba Tecra A4. This was done on my mobile phone, and I am sure its tiny lense needs cleaning with an alcohol swipe pretty damn soon.

As I am now a “corporate executive”…not.. I linked my laptop to my mobile phone. Updating contacts left right and centre, and scheduling appointments in my calendar. I do have a paper diary also, however the electronic version always stays with me at all times. I’ve now extracted my dates and kilometre logs to update my car log book. I have a large day ahead of me, so I have to try my hardest to wake up at a reasonable time. My left ear is infected, so my hearing isn’t great. Can anyone suggest a good non-audible alarm clock?

Its Hot!

Well today was over 40 degress C, I managed to survive in my darkened lounge room with my multiple fans and laptop, and working from home (and watching some cricket on the side)…. ah the life… well not really… the heat was a blatant distraction. But I did manage to get some work done.

Unlike yesterday, at 2pm I had a power failure that lasted almost 12 hours, and hence my ability to work died when my laptop battery went flat. I never thought I’d go back to dialup internet, however its quite useufl when you have no AC power. However any attempts to visit other people with power and broadband also failed miserably… as soon as I arrived at Shane’s place, he had a power failure. Esther was my saving grace, and I enjoyed a few beers with her (and a laptop charge up too).

I’ve been flat out busy over the past few weeks, however whilst work is on offer, I better take it, as I have no idea what tommorrow will bring.

I am in the process of streamlining some time consuming medial tasks, and have been hacking up some bash/perl scripts, that don’t seem to be working as planned, but at least I am making progress. However I know it will need to be done, and sone, because I can see this job getting more and more time consuming if I don’t do something now. I like to have a slack ethic or getting it done properply once; just so I don’t have to do the same thing again. Anywyay… the cool change has been most welcome, and I shall try and get some sleep.

Well 2006 is here.. and its almost been a week!

Well its been a while since I made my last post.

Christmas was fantastic, however Dad got me to work on his digital surveilence system. I think he will try and get broadband anyway possible, as my free dial up account with Telstra will expire shortly. However I think he may be lucky to get ISDN due to the remote nature of his house.

I spent a few days in Geelong immediately after Christmas. Dad’s birthday is on Boxing day, so Mum, Dad, and I went out to Pizzaland for dinner. On December 27th, I enjoyed watching the cricket test match from home, and then later on went out for a curry with Marcus, and later on we got paid in free pints by giving the audience in the pub a live show — of guitar playing and singing classic tunes.

I returned to work on the 30th of December… well working for myself, however I’ve been busy every day pretty much. New Years ever celebrations were fantastic, and seeing fireworks across the bay around several Melbourne was unreal.

I didn’t get too drunk — so I was quite good for New Years day. I’ve done a bucket load of work from home recently, however hopefully I will start seeing the benefits of additional renumeration — known as cash. I’ve done adhoc jobs — and have replaced two power supplies in 3 days. I swear computers get contagious diseases, and eventually they decide to have hardware failures in unison.

I worked for the Catholic Church today… they always keep me busy… and had a bit of a run in with a drug addict. The Police came, I diffused the situation, and waited patiently for the parish priest to arrive. However I hope there was a positive outcome. Its amazing, you do IT Support for the Catholic Church, and you can also assume the role as bodyguard and mediator. Strange job… but I love it… especially when they give me free bottles of wine. I better sign off, as its getting really late.
