The blues

Friday, September 30th, 2005

Well the last two days haven’t been fun at all. I’ve been sick as a dog with gastro, making many many trips to the toilet, headaches, cold/hot sweats, and the amazing gut ache. I also haven’t eaten in the last 32 hours… so that is kind of depressing also, but I can’t see myself getting an eating disorder out of this experience.

I spoke to my mother today on the telephone, and my dog Kelsie has died. This is rather sad for me. To think I saw her less than a week ago, and she looked pretty healthy.

Here is a picture of Kelsie. May she Rest in Peace.

Weekend in Warnambool

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

Well it was the best Saturday I have had in ages… and I did have annual leave for this day.

On Saturday, I headed down to Geelong around midday, and caught up with my Aunte Barb, Uncle John, Cousin Lance, and Cousin-in-law Sally. I enjoyed some pizza, and we began our pilgrimage to Warnambool.

We (being Lance, Sally, and I) arrived in Warnambool around 5pm, and said hello to our Cousin Al (except for Lance, he said hello to brother Al)… but all was good. We admired his three fish tanks, and his catfish has grown somewhat large.. but he or she is an efficient cleaner. If anyone can tell me how to determine the sex of a catfish, it may come in useful.

We headed down to Port Fairy for our traditional stump rump at the Caledonian Inn. Almost 1kg of steak goodness. It was enjoyed by all present. We went back to Warnambool, played a few games of pool, and then went back to Al’s place to sleep.

I slept in way to long on Sunday, and rose around 11am. The weather was fantastic, even by Warnambool standards, and I went for a drive by the beach and spit in the afternoon. We played a few card games, a trivia board games, and I realised that my knowledge is somewhat of a mixed nature. Alistair cooked a sublime lamb shanks meal, and we watched the DVD - Around the world in 80 days. I pretty much slept through it, however I had much trouble sleeping in bed afterwards. I went for a night stroll down the beech, and saw the coppers pull over a few “potential” hoons down the road.

Today I headed down with Alistair to Deakin Uni to connect online and get some decent hardware drivers for his computer’s modem, however I think the modem is stuffed now. I will give him another one as I’ve managed to collect some redundant hardware over the years. We drove back to Geelong this afternoon, and briefly dropped by my sister’s place, before going back to see my Aunte and Uncle. After a quick bite to eat, I headed back to Melbourne. I think it is about time I went to sleep. I want to get into good sleeping habits.

Just to track back a little

Tuesday, September 20th, 2005

Last week wasn’t too pleasant. Had some painful reflux, and eating any type of food resulted in a very bad upper stomache ache. However I’ve noticed it has been considerly better since Friday.

On Saturday night, I helped celebrate Andy’s 27th Birthday. Andy is one of the biggest hoarders I know, but at least he has a cool 80s vinyl collection. Bourbon was flowing at the party, however as I wouldn’t call myself a bourbon drinker, I only had 2 cans of it for the entire night. No beer was to be found anywhere. You could call me a two can screamer I guess, but I figure that alcohol is not essential to having a good time. A few of us were sitting by the backyard fire until 10am… I then realised how tired I was… and headed back home for some much needed sleep.

Today (being Monday) has been a very sleepy day. I didn’t get anything done, however as long as I don’t make a habit out of it… its all good. Time for bed, work starts tommorrow.

Gender Genie

Saturday, September 17th, 2005

Well aftering reading Max’s Blog, I discovered an interesting site known as the Gender Genie.. After quering several blog posts, some of my older poems, and some even older lyrics I wrote years ago, I am borderline male. Which is a good thing I suppose :)

However after testing this using various adjectives, I think I’ve found a way to cheat it somewhat.

No particular news for the day, except Shane from my tennis club came around with his brand spanking new laptop. I think it is more than capable of playing Star Wars: KOTR. Now we’ll just have to wait and see how my tax assessment will go. Accountant thinks its a winner, however my previous two assessments have been closer to my estimation than my accountants. So I will just have to wait and see. I ain’t getting my hopes up, but if I get a nice little return, I shall hail the Stump Rump, and quite possibly devour it. Then again, I am going there next week.

Taxing time

Monday, September 12th, 2005

Well it is that time now. Two years worth of tax returns to do, however I have to finalise my sole trading transactions as well. According to my own Tax caculations (and I’ve been very close to correct on previous occasions), I am very likely to get a four figure tax bill. I am not looking forward to getting this confirmed, however it looks highly probable. I haven’t paid myself a wage, but have made drawings from business capital. Due to this technicality, I am pretty sure I will get this as an income tax bill instead of my business. If I understood taxation law and accounting practices better, I would know for certain. But my accountant will reveal all come 4pm.

I crashed at my folks place last night, and I am definately appreciating the quietness of the surrounding country side. Most of the cows have given birth to calfs, and I think there is two cows pending motherhood. Anyway… I better get back to work.

Nation States

Wednesday, September 7th, 2005

My friend Miles showed me the web site, Nation Sates.

This is an online game where you can control a whole country. Depeneding on how often you want to make changes to your country, you can shape it to address issues that randomly arrise, or even dismiss issues if you see fit. It takes up about 5 minutes of my time every day, but it does give me a few laughs.

My country is called Saganaki, which is name after a greek delicacy of grilled cheese and flour, that is usually eaten with a touch of lemon juice. More details on the actual Saganaki can be found here.

Click on Saganaki to see the development of my twisted country.
