Well the last four days have been fantastic. I attempted to blog via WAP, however for some reason, it didn’t work. Maybe next time I will get it happening.
Thursday night involved setting up camp, setting up the camp fire, and drinking a little too much beer. But all was good.
On Friday, I made it to the second round in D Grade Singles, and then I was knocked out in convincing fashion. I lost 2-8. This gave me valuable time to socialise with other members of my camp, and our tennis nut neighbours. We then had a few drinks by the camp fire, played a few card games, and retired to bed by 4am.
On Saturday the Doubles event began. My partner Bill (Paul and Josh’s Dad) had a very strained armed, however we managed to pull off a victory in a tie breaker. I played at my absolute best, so I was very impressed with that effort. Our club went out to a pub in Myrtleford for a counter meal, and we then retreated back to the camp fire for a few more drinks. I went to bed at 4am again, and slept in until 9am.
On Sunday Bill and I played another doubles match, but we lost that 5-8. I didn’t play too well, and Bill’s arm strain wasn’t helping the flow of game play. I had to help him bandage his arm half way through the set. But it was a valiant effort none the less.
Kellie and I also made our Grand Entrace to the Mixed Doubles event. Kellie is only a beginner, and the competition was a little strong for her, but she played very well. I was impressed with her on court performance. We lost 3-8 in our opening match, and I managed to hold three services games. A few of us went out for Chinese dinner, and once again, we retired back to the camp fire until we were interrupted by a little rain. I managed to move most camping gear under cover during this time. Once the rain stopped, the camp fire area was the circle of socialising. Had an early night, and went to bed at 2.30am.
Today (being Easter Monday) Kellie and I played our second mixed doubles match, and we lost that rather badly. I think I was too tired to play competitively, but hey.. I still loved it. We (being Paul and Kellie & myself) headed down to Melbourne early in the afternoon, and I am now finally home. I am going to love sleeping in my own bed tonight.
Unfortunately I forgot to pack my digital camera, but there is always next year. I am going back next year, that is for certain. The country town, the grass courts, the camp fires, even the local bakery made the whole long weekend worth while. The pefect sunny and hot weather, and the freezing cold nights was a major contrast in temperature, but I loved it none the less. Time I had an early night.
