Nigerian Scammer no more!

Sunday, February 27th, 2005

Well I had to politely decline the “Potential” Nigerian Scammer’s offer. He was too desperate to deceive me, so I had to cut all ties in record time. I hope he understands once and for all that I ain’t interested. Every offer that sounds too good to be true usually is, and his literacy skills speak for themself. I highly doubt that this person is an educated banker. Then again, my literacy is pretty terrible right now too.

Anyway… its time I posted his ID information. Quite amazing what lengths some people will go to.

Here is a copy of George Parker’s Death certificate. I have no idea who George Parker is, but this guy was intent on making me his next of kin.

Now I hope the enlargments work OK. It appears to work fine with Mozilla Firefox and IE anyway. Time for me to head down to Geelong.

Hey Joe!

Saturday, February 26th, 2005

I spent today with my friend Joe. We attempted to set up a wireless link between neighbouring houses, but it wasn’t to be. One unit was a Wireless Access point, the other a Wireless Access Point/Router.

I think bridging the two access points may be possible, however having wirless access in both premisis would not have been possible. I think putting come CAT5 in a condute between the two premisis is the best option. Also had a splendid lunch, Cajun Chicken Gnocchi went down too nicely.

I got another Nigerian scam email, and this time I decided to play along with it. I’ve reminded him that Australia’s anti-terrorism laws are pretty damn evil, and most of us wouldn’t be caught dead being a middle man for transferring large sums of cash; simply because this could be seen as potentially receiving funds for terrorist activities. I even mentioned about our detainment without charge for suspicion of terrorism.. and he still hasn’t got the point. Whatever the outcome, I ain’t sending money, and I ain’t receiving money. Simple as that. I am just curious to see what angle they will play.

Some scammers transfer looted funds to your bank account, whilst others want you to send money to them. Either way, I am surprised at his willingless to proceed with something dodgy, even though I’ve told him in plain English that I am not a beneficary to this alleged dead person. I wonder if he will type my domain phillparker.com in his web browser and read this. Who knows.. but enough is enough. Time for bed.

Working class Geek

Thursday, February 24th, 2005

Well one day I hope to acquire a few specialist skills within the genre of IT, however today it was just the same old - same old. Installed software patches, hacking up web site templates, ordering PC parts, data back ups, and recovering old data from an old PC. However at least progress was made, and I don’t think I was inefficient with my time either.. so I can be content about that. Even published a few PDF files just for good measure. I’ve got a job ahead of me still, so there will be no rest for me in a few weeks, but the extra income will gladly be welcomed.

Its bloody hot right now… and its like 10.52pm.. however I must try and sleep soon, otherwise I will hardly function come work tommorrow. I also tried one of the Steak Baguettes from Hungry Jacks tonight, they were all right, however I don’t think I’d get another. When it comes to a Steak Sandwhich, nothing beats Kevs Takeaway in Geelong. Rumor has it he is selling his business, so I better make a pilgrimage before the grand Steak Sandwhich disappears forever.

Beer appreciation night

Monday, February 21st, 2005

Last night Stefan appeared on the Internet, and he advised me he was staying up all night just to implement something for his work. I suggested we should appreciate beer, and appreciate beer we did.

We walked from his place to Bridey O’Rilleys, and appreciated a few pints of Guinness in the beer garden. We than went inside, found a table, and appreciated a few Kilkennys. At 3am, we made a slight detour via the Brunswick Hotel where we appreciated a few more beers. From there we walked to Carlton, ate a souvlaki, and walked back to Brunswick East. After almost 2 hours of walking, bed was beckoning.

I now have a slight hang over, but I am sure I will get over it.

Strange SMS messages

Saturday, February 19th, 2005

Well occasionally you may get the mis-directed SMS, however over the last week, I have received like three of them from different numbers. I have had a few SMS exchanges from a few “strangers” who claim to know me, however it remains one big mystery. I am quite preplexed as to why people will send cryptic messages to me, and not tell me who they are. Others have left their first name, but I either doesn’t recognise ‘em, or they have such a common name it could be quite a few people I know. Ringing back usually results in a “No answer” response. So if any of you “strangers” are reading this, please identify yourself. It gets rather annoying after a while. :P

I think SMS has its time and place, but what happened to the good old fashioned phone call?

Officeworks

Saturday, February 19th, 2005

I returned the remains of my desk to OfficeWorks with the help of Miles, and they organised to deliver me a new one free of charge. To my surprise, a professional furniture assembler will also assemble my replacement desk, however I think I did a splendid job on the first one, it was just a bit defective (the desk that is, and not my assembling skills :P). But hey.. I won’t turn them down on their offer. I am just happy I am getting a new desk.

My new place is still disorganised, and getting a network connection or a working phone line can be a bit annoying at times. Finding somewhere to use my laptop can also be a challenge, as we’re still waiting for a key to the back storage room on the house. I think the next time I move, I will plan it better, and apply for ADSL as soon as I get my telephone number. Anyway.. by next week, I should be back on track, well I hope so anyway.

Bard’s MSN Doodling

Tuesday, February 15th, 2005

I was at Bard’s place the other day, and he decided to sketch me while I was playing a computer game.

On Bard’s request I have decided to publish his art work here. This is Bard’s illustration of me playing Star Wars Battlefront wearing headphones. I think he did this using one of the new features of MSN Messenger Beta 7.

This screen shot was captured by Bard on Bard’s computer.

Valentines Day

Tuesday, February 15th, 2005

Well another Valentines Day has gone by, and I still haven’t found a Valentine yet. I used to be a little upset by it, however these days it is just another day in the year. I hope maybe one day this day may have some significance, but until then, it can be pretty much ignored by me.

I did a cameo trip to Geelong over my weekend, and managed to get most of my work done, however I hope soon I will be set up to do this in Melbourne. Once I get a desk that doesn’t collapse, all should be good, however I am just happy I am still decked out in Geelong for secondary Office Space. I really need to get better organised, and I sure am working on it.

Time is becoming more precious the older I get.

Domain Madness

Monday, February 14th, 2005

Well I am a self confessed domain name junky, and my illness will potentially become worse. I’ve been attempting to use a new Domain Management system, and by rights, it looks like it is full of fantastic features, however I’d say it was written by Indians, simply by the way I navigate through this maze of feautures. I can smell Vindaloo all over it too. I was up to 4am last night just tinkering with it, so I had another late night.

I also managed to send off a few more invoices, and apply for a few jobs. So I’ve had a productive weekend, even though most of it was spent indoors. I am blogging from my folks place on their glorious 28.8k connection, so time is a premium. Chau!

Finally moved

Saturday, February 12th, 2005

Well after a week of interruptions, I’ve finally finalised my move to my new place. I’ve finally got a phone extension lead too, so I am on dial up Internet for the time being, but I will live. It sure is better being online, that not online at all. I’ve missed my Internet I must admit.

I’ve finally got my new desk too, it looks alright, however the quality of it appears terrible. It collapsed into pieces today after slightly moving it, and the bolts holding it together have torn into the vaneer and MDF. I am going to ask for a replacement, as I took great care assembling it properly, however I suppose they don’t make furniture like the used to. Either way, I will still ask for a replacement, as a desk should be more robust I think.

Anyway.. I’ve got heaps of stuff to do, so I must sign off.
