In Mourning

Monday, January 31st, 2005

Well… Hewitt went down in four sets, and the Australian cricket team lost to Pakistan. I was at Paul’s place, we had two TVs so we could watch both matches, and I was disappointed by both outcomes.. The BBQ that Paul and Kellie hosted was pretty mad. I ate about four stick kebabs.

I’d say I am almost heart broken that Hewitt couldn’t pull a victory. There is always next year for him I guess. I hope he has the will to go one better next year. C’mon!

Working overtime today can be described as pretty blunt. I had a mixture of all types of customers, and boy did I feel it. A whole new relaxed sensation came over me as soon as I left the building.

Tommorrow, or should I say today as it is 1.40am in the morning… I am working for the Church. I have a massive to do list, and I hope I can make lots of progress, as not many staff members will be working on Monday. Time to retire.. bed is calling my name.

Flashback

Sunday, January 30th, 2005

I think the ABC are playing a series of 80s music right now. I think they are also showing snippets from Countdown Revolution, which was probably really cool then, but now looks really crusty. I now feel old after watching some of it, and possibly even distinguished :)

Australian Wiki has finally arrived at: http://www.wiki.com.au

This looks like it has been inspired by Wikipedia

I’ve seen some people get quite addicted to Wiki, so maybe I should take the plunge and get more involved. I have a fair bit of work to do on the side, so maybe another day. Now the weather has finally cooled down, I’ve actually managed to get an evening nap in.

Working overtime tommorrow on a Sunday. I hate overtime, and I rarely ever work Sunday, but the money could come in handy right now. But the free BBQ on offer tommorrow has sold me this time. It is pretty hard to refuse a free feed.

What Kind of Intelligence Do You Have?

Sunday, January 30th, 2005

I found this on Blogthings

I am a little surprised, but I must admit.. I love to sing and play guitar. I’d give a live performance at a moments notice.

Your Dominant Intelligence is Musical Intelligence

Every part of your life has a beat, and you’re often tapping your fingers or toes.
You enjoy sounds of all types, but you also find sound can distract you at the wrong time.
You are probably a gifted musician of some sort - even if you haven’t realized it.
Also a music lover, you tend to appreciate artists of all kinds.

You would make a great musician, disc jockey, singer, or composer.

Hewitt into the Final

Saturday, January 29th, 2005

Well I am a big fan of the tennis, and the Australian Open is no exception. Lleyton Hewitt defeated Andy Roddick after loosing the first set, and I was very impressed with his performance. After last night’s upset, where Marat Safin defeated Roger Federer in an epic 5 set battle, I hope we have a memorable grand final. Ideally I would like to see Lleyton be the victor, simply because he’s a proud Aussie, and loves this country, but I think I would be content with a good contest. I sure hope not to see a one sided affair.

So tonight I dropped around to Paul and Kellie’s place, and got to watch the game under their backyard hut. It was very pleasant weather wise, as the temperature begin to cool down on my arrival. Chinese food was also magnaficent. A good change to my regular diet of steamed vegetables and meat of some variety.

Heat Wave

Thursday, January 27th, 2005

Well Melbourne has had four days in a row of 30 degrees plus. My house has become a sauna, and I should have used the air conditioner in the back room more often. However due to its age, it is loud as, and I can’t even enjoy watching TV with it.

I’ve watched a fair whack of the Australian Open, and Lleyton Hewitt has just won another stunning five setter. I just hope it hasn’t drained him too much for the forthcoming semi-final between himself and Andy Roddick. I just hope for a good contest, but I love to see an Australian do well at sport. I’ve also been loving the cricket. Been working a bit with my laptop, however I think the TV has been getting to distracting.. however at the end of this week, I am sure I will get heaps more work done with the Australian Open being over and done with.

I was also impressed with Alicia Molik’s performance in the womens singles, and she just lost in a battle axe match between herself and Lindsy Davenport. She and Lleyton have both done us proud on Australia Day. I suppose I also better welcome 12,000 new Aussies that were naturalised today. C’mon!

Team Outing

Monday, January 24th, 2005

I went to my first ever out of work, work organised social gathering. I had to break tradition, simply so I could farewell Stefan. About 4pm, I finally found the location, and we cooked up a BBQ of mammoth proportions for the amount of people present. We feasted well, and probably drank a few too many beers, but all was good. A fine day really… nice to see how some people are really different outside of the workplace. The wind near the beach was pretty strong, but not a blow fly in site, and the sunny day never got too hot due to the ever present breeze.

Tennis, Tension, and more Tennis

Sunday, January 23rd, 2005

Well I slept in today, about an hour and a bit late for work… but at least I made the effort to turn up. The place is getting worse, however they’ve promised more staff. Recruitment and training does take time, and I can be rest assured knowing that I won’t feel any relief for another month. The mass exodus of staff due to unpleasant working conditions is compounding the problem, and I sure hope I can jump on the band wagon. Six years is definately enough! Anyone want to offer me part time geek work?

Tonight I played five sets on singles against Joel. He is younger, fitter, faster, and probably more talented too, however I did have a few good contests, even though the score line reported… 1-6 0-6 1-6 1-6 1-6

I actually picked up a bit more in the final sets, even though the scores don’t feflect it.. however once I get a bit fitter, I’m sure I will be able to do better. Singles Tennis is quite different Doubles when it comes to stamina. Doubles Tennis is really a walk in the park. However I must get prepared for the forthcoming season.

Microsoft Anti-Spyware Beta 1

Saturday, January 22nd, 2005

Well after the media hype, I’ve decided to try Microsoft’s Anti-Spyware product. Considering I don’t use Anti-Virus or Anti-Spyware software, I’d suspect it would pick up something. But after a thorough check, nothing came up. From what I’ve heard, I’ve been told it is quite good.

About once a month, I do a web based anti-virus/anti-spyware scan, just for precautionary measures, and on the very seldom occasion, a non-running virus/worm/trojan is found.

I think doing regular Windows Update and using a non-Microsoft browser (and avoiding Porno/Gambling/Warez sites) like the plague is the best prevention. Then again, using a non-Microsoft operating system would probably work even better… especially if you don’t run pre-complied binaries from untrusted sources with root level access. Anyway… I am rambling too much, time for some sleep.

Over and over again

Friday, January 21st, 2005

Well today I pretty much had a gut full. It is quite amazing how staff members higher up in the food chain (at my regular job) clearly hide behind the safety in numbers syndrome, even when they’re plainly wrong. I’ve proven them wrong beyond reasonable doubt, and maybe a precedent has been set. However from what I’ve observed, damage control may kick in, or possibly ignorance will win this battle that never have needed to start. I am over it, and will definately find an alternative employment real soon.

I took a long walk yesterday (Wednesday night), from Fawkner to Northcote, and my mate Bard took me home. I needed it too, I was totally buggered. I haven’t wandered like that in a while, and my legs were damn sore today, but rest assured I will do it again soon. It was very peaceful indeed. The Meri Creek Path is much bigger than I initially expected.

Sorry for the non-responded comments too, I needed a Blog free week, even though it defeats the purposes of having one; and here I am contradicting myself again, but the previous week has been eventful.

My cousin Lance married Sally, the love of his life, and I wish them very well for the future. It was a sensational wedding, and the after party turned out pretty well. It even ended with a few of us visiting Stalactites. The souvlaki went down beautifully. Anyway.. time for bed.. got an early start.
