Ross the cripple, and happy new years eve!

Friday, December 31st, 2004

Well tonight, the pain got the best of my housemate Ross (aka Josh). I took him for a fair hike to a 24 hour Dentist in Balwyn. He got his tooth extracted, and four hours later, we arrive home. I’ve never seen such inefficiency in a dentist’s clinic before. Ross’ mouth is bloddy as, and we barely made the midnight closing time of the chemist. But hopefully he will feel better in a few days time. His old tooth was cracked in half, all the way to the two roots. A bloody mess indeed.

Anyway.. Happy New Years Eve. Only one more day to go.

Boxing Day

Monday, December 27th, 2004

Last night, after Christmas celebrations, Trickey and I hit the open Night Clubs of Geelong. We drank scotch, beer, and Japanese Ale. My stomache got a bit bloated, probably due to Christmas Lunch and Dinner, so i had to back off. Quickeze came to the rescue.

I think I’ve witnessed something possibly illegal where parasites “picked up” a “drugged girl”. However I am not able to confirm who knew who, so I will only assume this happened.

I think it is a shame if men have to behave in such matter where they blatantly take advantage of women who are hardly concious of their surroundings. I assume this woman had either taken recreational drugs, and caused herslef to be a potential victim, or has been drugged through drink spiking or other means, and is being victimised by “parasites” that were also attending this night club. Regardless of the circumstances, I found the behaviour of the parasites appauling, and I sure hope they get whats coming from them.

So there was my introduction to Boxing day. Woke up at 2pm today, watched some cricket, and tought my Mum how to use iTunes with her new iPod. I think she finally has the hang of it.

Christmas, here we come!

Saturday, December 25th, 2004

Well Christmas has finally arrived, its 1.30am, and I’ve been kicking back with Bard. We’ve been for a walk down Merri creek, and once again got on the Star Wars battlefront. I think I may be getting better at the game, but I am no where near close to Jedi status. Due to the nature of the game, I may never reach it, but all I can do is keep trying.

Worked for the Catholic Church today, and made some progress in the IT development, however deadlines need to be adhered to, and now I am in the process of documenting all aspects of IT within the work environment. It is quite interesting, and I think my literacy skills are improving too.

Anyway… time to get some sleep, I have a big day ahead of me.

Why Santa can’t exist!

Saturday, December 25th, 2004

I shamefully stole this from a web site, however I do remember reading it over 10 years ago, and it did give me a good chuckle.

Why Santa Can’t Exist

1) No known species of reindeer can fly, but there are 300,000 species of organisms yet to be classified, and while most of these are insects and germs, this does not completely rule out flying reindeer which only Santa has ever seen.

2) There are 2 billion children (defined as persons under 18) in the world;
However, since Santa doesn’t appear to handle Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, or Buddhist children, that reduces the workload down to 15% of the original total - 378 million according to the Population Reference Bureau. At an average census rate of 3.5 children per household, that’s only 91.8 million
homes. One presumes that there is at least one good child in each.

3) Santa has 31 hours of Christmas to work with, thanks to the different time zones and the rotation of the earth, assuming he travels east to west. This works out to 822.6 visits per second. That is to say that for each Christian household with good children, Santa has 1/1000th of a second to park, hop out of the sleigh, jump down the chiminey, fill the stockings, distribute the remaining presents under the tree, eat whatever snacks have been left, get back up the chiminey, get back into the sleigh, and move on to the next house. Assuming that each of these 91.8 million stops are evenly distributed around the earth (which we know to be false but will accept for the purpose of these calculations), we are talking about .78 miles per household, a total trip of 75.5 million miles, not counting stops to do what most of us must do at least once every 31 hours, plus eating, etc. This means that Santa’s sleigh is moving at 650 miles per second, 3000 times the speed of sound. For purposes of comparison, the fastest man-made vehicle, the Ulysses space probe, moves at a poky 27.4 miles per second. A conventional reindeer can run 15 miles per hour at the most.

4) The payload on the sleigh add another interesting element. Assuming that each child gets nothing more than a medium-size set of Lego building blocks about two pounds), the sleigh is carrying 321,300 tons, not counting Santa, who is invariably described as overweight. On land, conventional reindeer can pull no more than 300 pounds. Even granting that flying reindeer exist (see point 1), can fly very quickly (see point 2), and can pull ten times the normal amount, we cannot do the job with eight, or even nine, reindeer. We would need 214,200 reindeer. This increases the payload - not counting the weight of the sleigh - to 353,430 tons. Again, for comparision, this is four times the weight of the Queen Elizabeth II (Queen Elizabeth II the ship that is).

5) 353,000 tons travelling at 650 miles per second creates enormous air resistance. This would heat the reindeer up in the same fashion as a spacecraft re-entering the earth’s atmosphere. The lead pair of reindeer would absorb 14.3 quintillion joules of energy. Per second. Each. In short,
they would burst into flame almost instantaneously, exposing the reindeer behind them, and creating deafening sonic booms in their wake. The entire reindeer team would be vaporized within .00426 seconds. Santa, meanwhile, would be subjected to forces 17,500 times greater than normal gravity. A 250-pound Santa (which seems slim) would be pinned to the back of his sleigh by 4,315,015 pounds of force.

In conclusion, if Santa ever did deliver presents on Christmas Eve, he’s dead now.

Birthday

Sunday, December 19th, 2004

Well today I’m officially another year older, and have almost qualified for Grand Poobah status. I will be old and wise sometime soon, well I hope so anyway.

Yesterday, I was celebrating my friend Jackson’s 30th Birthday, and we celebrated hard. Even got the guitar out and played a few tunes. At the midnight hour, Jackson got a few high quality glasses of scotch, and we enjoyed them, and toasted my birthday, and I think my well being today has suffered a bit from too much over indulgence. I’m glady I don’t “celebrate” in such manner often.

Today was full of festivity, and got to meet up with a a few cousins, uncles and auntes. We had an early Christmas get together and combo Birthday bash. It was at my folks place, so I am there right now. Hopefully my health shall return to normal come tommorrow. This headache, (although not severe) is bugging me big time.

Irresponsibility

Sunday, December 12th, 2004

Well today was no exception, I’ve been irresponsible, and I should face the consequences of my actions; what that may be. Wagging school was a serious offence, however when it comes to actual work, I think I deserve whatever comes.

Last time I was there, I felt very upset that my request for a minimum resource in order to do my job was ignored. I also felt very upset that no one in my own department gave me acknowledgment for a fault I observed within Telstra’s product. I am not looking for personal recognition, I just wanted to know if the problem itself was actually being looked at. I personally think it was ignored.

At work, I often feel I am pulled into a vortex, and get unusually stressed, which results in myself acting very strangely indeed. I get upset at the smallest things when at work, and its almost like I am counting down every second before the end of my shift. I’d like to lay blame on my employer, however I know I am just as much at fault too, due to my lack of committment. I think I’ve gone well past the burn out period, and each day I live in hope of finding a new challenege elsewhere.

I think my Sole Trading IT work has blessed me with some sanity, so in my near future, I will endeavour to find another part time job elsewhere, or have enough courage to work for myself full time. I guess I will live in hope that everything will eventually change for the better. But for the time being, I hope I can keep hanging on.

Late night Madness

Monday, December 6th, 2004

Well.. after much effort to remain disciplined, and to get to bed at a reasonable hour… last night (Saturday night) my attempt to get to bed reasonably early failed miserably.

I spent time helping Teresa fix her computer, going to Stalactities for a souvlaki, and making a detour via Air Port West to visit a few people. I hope all is well with her herself and her computer. I think her computer is running much better now, but that is my biased opinion.

Socialising can have shocking efforts on sleeping habits, but hey.. would I want it any other way? I should be used to that by now. I don’t think no matter how hard I try, I will ever sleep on a regular pattern unless my life style radically changes.

Finally made it to bed by about 11am. I slept until 6pm, but am feeling tired already. So more sleep, here we come.

Double Whammy!

Saturday, December 4th, 2004

In two days, both of my teams lost their Grand Finals in tennis. I suppose there is always next season. People within my mens team showed unsportsmanlike behaviour towards each other in the final sets, and I believe that was the reason behind their poor result in the last sets. While I am not happy with their attitudes, I sure hope they learn from the experience. I did come back to my tennis club to celebrate the Victories claimed by two other teams in my club. I think most of us there would have a hangover to prove it also.

Today I plan to do some washing, and then get back to some of my geek projects. I think I should sleep OK tonight.

December here we come

Thursday, December 2nd, 2004

Well the greatest month of the year is here! I have a whole lot of Birthdays in my family to celebrate, including my own too. But I will tackle them as they come.

My team lost their Tennis Grand Final last night.. we played well, but the opposition was too good. I didn’t play, however I was still very proud of my team’s performance. The opposition remained undefeated for the entire season, and now have a premiership to celebrate. Tommorrow night, the mens Grand Final contest is on. I think it should bring out the best in my team, and I hope we have a good night. I should consider sleep, must work tommorrow, and the 7am wake up will indeed be painful.
