Sick of being sick!

Tuesday, September 28th, 2004

Four days with the Flu hasn’t helped my quest to overhaul my workload, but tommorrow I will be back in action for sure. The last two days (out of four) have been head ache free, and today my cough has noticably cleared up. I am breathing heaps better, and my nose is still a bit runny, but not causing me too much inconvenience. It has been working overtime previously, and I think it will want to claim a GST input credit for Tissues purchased.. but the tax man may not see it that way :P

I’ve been relaxing at my folks place, even watched a few DVDs, but I know for certain, I’d much rather completed my work than sit back and do nothing. But you also need to take some time to get better too… so my conscience is very clear, although my finances will be a bit slimmer for the next few weeks.

I watched the Gods must be Crazy (Vol 1 and 2), both classic movies, however the first definately had more laughs included. I couldn’t believe the sequel was 8 years newer. But then again, along with laughs came the pain of my influenzized chest, but I’m sure I will survive.

Almost there

I’ve had a mix of success and failures over the past two weeks. I’ve migrated an old peer to peer network system to a client/server system. My perserverance is beginning to pay off.

I’ve had many nights with little sleep, along with attending my part time job, time has become somewhat very precious. My tennis social activies have also eaten into my avaliable time, but I couldn’t see myself giving up my love for such a stress relief activity. But all in all, I’ve made some acomplishments, and I’m content in knowing that I’ve learned heaps over the past few weeks.

One day I will learn better time management, but that will have to wait for another day :)

BTW, I have a few Gmail invites left. Gmail is Google Web Based email, and has a massive 1 gigabyte of storage space. I especially love their spam filter too. If you want a Gmail account, leave a comment with your email, and one shall be sent your way. These are limited, so first in first served.

I must retire to bed, otherwise I will be a total mess come 7am. I’ve been trying real hard to break old graveyard shift habits. :P

PS. If I appeared to snub any of you online, please try not to be offended… I’ve got heaps to do, little time to do it, and I am doing Jury Duty come October 6,7, and 8. My deadlines have been shortened because of this.

PPS. Happy Birthday to my cousin Lance, he is officially an older man. Bah!

There is no time to stop

The past week has had a degree of success and failures.

I’m in the process of rolling out a new LAN, and have put together my base workstation operating system ready for cloning. I’ve got the Server and Proxy running reliably, and roaming profiles are all working too.

The roll out however has not worked due to issues with Norton’s Ghost. I have been having DHCP authentication failures, along with 20 coasters on CD-Rs as a result of trying the CD-R image method.

I’ve acquired the UPS software for the server today, so I am very happy about that. So pretty much, if Ghost works I am 90% there. Any recommendations of using Ghost with Windows 2003 or CD-R brands would be much appreciated.

Work, Sick, Bah!

I haven’t been feeling to well today, possibly a tad feverish, but it hasn’t stopped me working. My body temperature feels like its going up and down like a yoyo, and I think I am having nose bleeds whilst sleeping. I will get it checked out when I have a moment spare. I think that possibly I am over working, and under sleeping… which sounds like a recipie for disaster. However I’ve learnt heaps more about Windows 2003/Windows XP, group policies, and the bane of all things, roaming profiles.

A productive day full of challenges. I am almost certain I will go with a Linux solution next time, but I did have to try and see what it is like to work on the other side of the fence. With a cheap licensing deal (working for a not for profit orginization), it was too hard to refuse. However I think I will always remain undecided when it comes to rolling out a Server/Client solution.

Geeking madness

Today… with the help of old man John, I’ve managed to get Windows 2003 Active directory problem fixed, kept an uptime of close to two weeks, and migrated old applications to server. Everything was running smoothly, until I came across this propietry Database query engine called Card.. a Human Edge product made by Sandhurst Australia. Since I know very little about this… I am frustrated.. I’ve re-checked the permissions, altered the batch file, but have not resolved the problem. Windows says the application is running, but nothing is displayed… arrggh!

I was actually there for eight hours today (1pm to 9pm) — old man John arrived at 5pm….. so I’ve had a longish day in the sub-contracting world.

Got heaps of work to do on Friday, but I am confident I can get everything else working nicely. Wish me well, as I sure hope to find the root cause and preferably a solution to this problem too.
